From Ryan: We had a Canteloupic breakthrough. The live version of the song sounds really cool now that we figured out how to play it. Can’t tell you how great that makes me feel. We busted our tushies on that one. Also, Mike and I have been talking a lot about writing. We’ve started exchanging inspiring inputs; lending each other books and talking about our thoughts for a new approach. We are getting back into the mode of being two sides of one brain. I’m really exited to work on new songs and explore writing with all that we’ve learned in the past year, but I know we have a lot of work to do on our live show before we can get too into that. I was talking to Milo before the Public Assembly gig and I think we might sneak our hands in the cookie jar on a few of our nights off and make some new music.
From Mike: Wrote and recorded this song for this week’s vlog and put it to footage from the past week’s travels. Just wanted to wish everyone a great holiday and blessed New Year.

From Mike: JERSEY. I haven’t been home very much, but just yesterday I had to go home and replace the tires on my truck. While I was getting my tires done, I saw a few people I hadn’t seen in quite a while, and one I hadn’t seen in a couple of years. To think that I had almost forgot what it was like going home. If you had been there as a witness you would have thought I spent everyday with them. My beard seemed to be a topic of conversation within the first few moments of each exchange.
(Old Friend) “Hey, how ya doing? What’s going on?”
(me) “Good…good! Same ole…”
(Old friend) “Whattya you doing here?”
(me) “Oh, you know, just changing my tires.”
(Old friend) “Oh yeah? Looks like you should be over on the corner at CVS buying a razor.”
I couldn’t help but smile each time. I liken this interaction to a warm “Welcome home” hug. No awkward slow starts, no obligatory small talk. Just straight to the point, very honest and personal in its own right. Nobody waits for you to move first. It’s just “Hello” right out of the gate. If you can’t appreciate that, I don’t know what to tell you.
From Milo: I like eating the oriental flavor of the Raman noodles. It has MSG in it, but it really tastes delicious. I like watching the food network at 3 o’clock in the morning but it’s for the food, I don’t really like any of the hosts. I wonder sometimes if a husband and wife can be president and vice president. They probably taught me that in school, but I doubt I was paying much attention. If that was possible, maybe Hilary would pick Bill as her VP if she had won.
I like seeing New York on the way to practice, but not having to drive into it. I’ll leave that to Maz. I like the sink in Ryan’s basement because it makes for a good place to have an intense conversation, or just lots of nice beers, or both. I like playing the drums when Jared is playing bass because when we jam it sounds badass. He dosen’t even look like he’s trying and he shreds.

From Ryan: Last week we had a show at Maxwells. It was a great turnout and I’m glad we finally got to do a show in Hoboken, NJ. It was good to see all the friends I’ve made here so far come out to the show and share a good Friday together (that shouldn’t sound like biblical reference, but there was a mock crucifixion…thanks for playing Jesus, Jared).
From Jared: Woke up this morning feeling slightly nauseous due to lack of sleep from the past week…it was a busy one, but lots of good things nonetheless. Maxwells last Friday was pretty killer. It being our first time, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. 11th and Washington made for a nice hike from the Path train, but all in all a really great venue. We shared the night with The Courtesy Tier, friends of mine from high school. A used-to-be jam band, now turned two-piece rock duo, who have certainly stepped up their game since our shows together at the knitting factory just a few years ago. More shows with them to come for sure. For us, it was the first show in a long time that all four band members felt pretty good walking off stage. Cant quite put my finger on it, but something has finally clicked for us in the past few practices. Whatever it is, it feels good to have it back. Work obligations forced cancelling sunday’s practice, pretty frustrating. Tuesday was unloading from the show, playing with Mike’s new analog drum machine, and sitting down for a meeting with our beloved manager Anthony to discuss the good, the bad, and the ugly….and the great and the beautiful.
